About Me

Hello, my name is Carla and I want to tell you a bit about myself. I am 32 years old and live with my fiancé Roger, whom I will marry in June this year. We have 3 beautiful girls, Isobel aged 4, and our twins, Emma and Charlotte were born in May of last year (2006).

I have been a midwife for almost 10 years now and I am very passionate about what I do, it is more than just a job to me. Being a midwife means that I get to share the happiest of times with so many different people from all walks of life helping them to have positive birthing experiences.

I have worked in several hospitals, including Derby, Sheffield and now Watford where I have remained for the last six years. I have a wide experience of midwifery and have worked in the community and as part of some superb labour ward teams. I look after cases involving multiple births, undertaking high-risk pregnancy, labour and delivery. In addition, one of the areas I specialise in is low-risk midwifery and I pride myself in helping babies deliver under water. What keeps the passion alive for me is the fact that my career is so diverse and no two days are ever the same.

Maybe like you, my partner and I found the news of forthcoming twins a little emotional (maybe an under statement). Feelings of shock soon gave way to feelings of fear and we unsuccessfully went off in search of someone, who could provide an honest, supportive and professional insight into what we were in for.

We did not find a single source for all the information, but, just as you are going to find, we found advice everywhere! (My partner is now an expert in politely 'accepting' advice whilst out shopping with the twins).

Of course, sometimes the wrong information can be worse than no information at all. So I am here to share with you my professional experience as a midwife as well as my experience as being a mum of new twins.

Throughout this amazing journey that you are on, we can share the highs and lows as you go through your pregnancy. I will aim to prepare you for the arrival of your new babies and you will meet people in the same situation as yourselves. Hopefully you will also form some long lasting friendships.

I look forward to sharing this exciting and life changing experience with you.
